The Book and Yarn Club is a monthly subscription club, which celebrates stories, stitching and community.
Each month, members receive a box containing:
- A newly released novel
- Three 20g mini-skeins of 8ply hand-dyed yarn inspired by the book’s cover art
Join fellow book lovers and yarn enthusiasts to chat about the story, share your makes, and connect with ‘yarnies’ across the country.
Read more about the type of books and the yarn below, or on the Book and Yarn Club webpage.
(Please note, the photos of books and yarn shown in this listing are examples only. The books provided through this club will be recently released novels, and the yarn will be three 20g mini-skeins.)
The Subscription
The Book and Yarn Club subscription costs $65 each month.
Once you have subscribed, you will be subscribed for the entirety of 2026 (you will only be debited monthly). You can cancel your subscription at any time, but may need to pay for the two coming months after you cancel. This is because we need to pre-order the books two months in advance. However, if we can fill your place in the club before then, you will not be charged for any months you don't participate in. You will receive the books and yarn that you have paid for!
Yarn Only Option (for audiobook listeners)
If you'd prefer to listen to an audiobook rather than read the hard copy of the book, we are also offering a yarn-only subscription. You will need to purchase the audiobook separately, and we will send you the yarn with a picture of the cover art. Either way, you are of course still very welcome to participate in the social aspects of the club.
About the Yarn
Each month, members of the Book and Yarn Club will receive three 20g mini-skeins of 8ply superwash Merino yarn. The yarn base, weight and quantity will be the same each month. Providing a consistent yarn base means you can create a cohesive garment or item across the year if you wish to. While the base will remain the same, the colours will vary wildly!
Each skein will be dyed by Sarah especially for the club. The colours will be inspired by the cover art of that month's book. The colours of the skeins will be a mix of colour ways with some matching tonal, semi tonal or speckled yarn.
The beauty of this club, is that you can make whatever you wish with the yarn provided! What you do with the skeins is entirely up to you, and we look forward to seeing what you create! We will be suggesting a few patterns you might like to follow, and we hope you'll also find inspiration from your fellow club members.
About the Books
We're working with a local book distributor to select books we think will have broad appeal, while still being great reads. We're avoiding topics that are too heavy, as we hope this club will bring lightness and smiles to your month. So in terms of genre, think "comfort reading", "up-lit" (uplifting fiction), "slice of life", "contemporary romance", or "cosy mystery". Something with light drama.
We don't want to be too prescriptive, and encourage you to be open minded! We will try to prioritise Australian and Tasmanian authors who fit within the genre.
Shipping
Your Book and Yarn box will be express posted to the address you add to your order. Should you change address during the year, you must let us know so we can update where your goodies go! Shipping is an additional cost on top of the cost of the subscription.
If you are a Hobart local, you can opt to pick up your box from the Bombed Yarns Studio at 16 Smith Street, North Hobart, Tasmania.

Book and Yarn Club - 2026 subscription
I suggest you hand wash your knitted items.
People have put their superwash yarn projects into a delicates bag and put it into a short wool wash with success.
The yarn is hand-dyed and washed with care. If the base is dark, there is a chance of a 'bleed' of colour. The bleed should not effect your yarn.
If you soak your yarn to block, only soak for 15 - 20 minutes before you take it out. Squeeze excess water with a dry towel (or spin it in the washing machine) and then 'block' your piece to shape.
