We're working with a local book distributor to select books we think will have broad appeal, while still being great reads.

We're avoiding topics that are too heavy, as we hope this club will bring lightness and smiles to your month. So in terms of genre, think "comfort reading", "up-lit" (uplifting fiction), "slice of life", "contemporary romance", or "cosy mystery".

We don't want to be too prescriptive, and encourage you to be open minded!

We'll also prioritise Australian and Tasmanian authors.

UPDATE: January’s book has just been ordered. The cover is bright and will make beautiful yarn! And publishers are saying if you like Bonnie Garmus, Gabrielle Zevin and Meg Mason, this book is for you.

We know many 'yarnies' love to have an audiobook playing while they knit, crochet or stitch. So Book and Yarn Club will have a yarn-only option for those who don't want a hard copy of the book.

You will need to purchase the audiobook separately, and we will send you the yarn with a picture of the cover art. You are of course still very welcome to participate in the social aspects of the club.

Each month, members of the Book and Yarn Club will receive three 20g mini-skeins of 8ply superwash merino yarn.

The yarn base, weight and quantity will be the same each month. Providing a consistent yarn base means you can create a cohesive garment or item across the year if you wish to.

While the base will remain the same, the colours will vary wildly!

Each skein will be dyed by Sarah especially for the club. The colours will be inspired by the cover art of that month's book. The colours of the skeins will be a mix of:

• Tonal (one block colour)

• Variegated (distinct sections of varied colours. Often with stripes, pooling or splashes of colour)

• Speckled (generally one base colour with tiny dots or splashes of colour throughout)

The beauty of this club is that you can make whatever you wish with the yarn provided! What you do with the skeins is entirely up to you.

We will be suggesting a few patterns you might be interested in following, and we hope you'll also find inspiration from your fellow club members.

You might choose to create:

• A granny square blanket, with one square made each month. At the end of the year, you'll have a throw that reminds you of the stories we've read and shared together!

• A garment like a sweater, which has been designed for stash-busting. Plenty of patterns have been written for mini-skeins, and you could knit yourself up a Book and Yarn Club jumper!

• Accessories or smaller items each month that are inspired by the book. For example, if the book was The Great Gatsby, you could make an Art Deco coaster set. For Little Women, you could make a mini shawl. Or for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, you could make some bed socks in honour of Grandpa Joe. (None of these books will be included! Just a few classics as examples.)

Yes! We really hope to foster community through this club. Good people like to read and knit, and we'd love to read and knit together!

We're still finalising exactly what this looks like, but we hope to run regular catch-ups (whether online or in person) where we can discuss the book and share what we're making. We'll also be offering an online forum where the chat can continue throughout the year.

Each month of the Book and Yarn Club costs $65.

For this, you will receive:

• A newly released novel in trade paperback size (the larger paperback books - valued between $30 and $35)

• Three 20g mini-skeins of custom hand-dyed yarn. The yarn is specifically dyed to match the cover art of the book

• Access to the Book and Yarn Club community

Boxes can be collected from the Bombed Yarns Studio (16 Smith St, North Hobart) free of charge. Or posted at an additional cost.

Subscriptions will be available to purchase on the Bombed Yarns website.

You will be charged/debited the subscription fee ($65) each month, and your Book and Yarn Club box will be either shipped to you or you can collect from the Bombed Yarns studio.

Once you have subscribed, you will be subscribed for the entirety of 2026 (but charged monthly). You can cancel your subscription at any time, but may need to pay for the two coming months after you cancel. This is because we need to pre-order the books two months in advance. However, if we can fill your place in the club before then, you will not be charged for any months you don't participate in. And of course, you will receive the books and yarn that you have paid for!

We understand that circumstances can change across the course of a year. If you need to cancel your subscription midway through the year, we will do everything we can to fill your place.

Once you have subscribed, you will be subscribed for the entirety of 2026 (but charged monthly).
