ABOUT

Inspired by friendship, creativity & a love for colour play.

OUR STORY

Bombed Yarns started out with two friends who knew each other for over 20 years.  Jan's health required her to pull out two years later and Sarah continued the love of colour play.  Over the last four years, she has branched out and Bombed Yarns has grown so much.

Sarah has been crafty from a very young age.  She remembers asking her mum, at about eight years old, to teach her how to cast on.  Watching her aunts spin fleece and knit jumpers out of raw fibre impressed her.  Now she knits, crochets, weaves and spins.  She does not have her own flock of fibre animals but you just never know.  She *might* like sheep a lot.

Sarah dyes mainly with professional acid dyes but also enjoys the ongoing discovery of botanical dyeing. She dyes with Tasmanian non superwash yarn White Gum Wool & superwash yarn in 4ply (traditional, high single ply twist or sock), 5ply, 8ply (traditional and sock) & 10ply.  Sometimes there is a special mixed fibre.  Sarah is working towards ideas such as fibres for spinning and progressing the exciting ideas, swirling in her mind, to 'sheeptation'!

One of the other really important purposes for Sarah, is to open her working studio and make it welcoming.  To allow others to visit and ask questions or join a class/workshop.  The Hobart yarn community comes together monthly, for a Stitch 'n Yarn.  She also organises guest teachers to offer us fabulous experiences.  You can see what is on in the events page or on Bombed Yarns social medias.
